Associate Provost for Digital Education Anthony Delitto joined the Office of the Provost in October 2024 to lead and establish the University of Pittsburgh Center for Excellence in Digital Education (Pitt EDGE). Delitto successfully increased graduate enrollment as dean of the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (SHRS) for nine years by leading and driving the strategic initiative to launch the school's first online and hybrid programs. Prior to his appointment as dean of SHRS, he served for 21 years as chair in the school's Department of Physical Therapy. Under his leadership, the Doctor of Physical Therapy program became one of the top-ranked clinical education programs in the nation according to U.S. News & World Report.

Delitto has authored or co-authored over 100 peer-reviewed research papers. He actively treats people with painful musculoskeletal disorders and his research focuses on implementing classification and treatment effectiveness studies into quality improvement initiatives. He has also conducted trials in exercise interventions for people with Parkinson's disease.

He was awarded one of the first large pragmatic trials from the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI), a multi-site, $13-million grant (the TARGET study) to investigate innovative ways to reduce the transition of acute low back pain by having physical therapists partner with primary care and deliver psychologically informed physical therapy to patients with acute low back pain who are at risk for persistent pain.

Research Interests

Delitto is primarily interested in conducting evidence-based studies in rehabilitation settings, particularly in populations who have musculoskeletal dysfunction (e.g., low back pain).
