John Shaw

Instructional Technology Support Specialist

John Shaw is an instructional technology support specialist for the University of Pittsburgh Center for Excellence in Digital Education (Pitt EDGE). Shaw brings many years of distance education to Pitt EDGE. He began his journey in the late 80s when he was hired as part of the former University External Studies Program (UESP).

Currently, Shaw supports educational technologies utilized in online learning platforms. He helps with the technologies used directly by students and faculty, as well as the many behind-the-scenes Learning Management System (LMS) integrations that fuel better course design and student interaction.

Shaw also functions, as needed, as an instructional designer/course builder. He is currently the system administrator for the Pitt Professional instance of the Canvas LMS and also provides administrative support.
Personally, Shaw enjoys reading, music (especially 70s punk, post-punk, and new wave), gaming and studying clarinet.
